Doris Hewitt Budd

Doris Hewitt Budd of Valdosta, died on May 15, 2007 at the age of 85 in Athens, Georgia after a lengthy illness. She was born September 28, 1921 in Lake Butler, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Henrietta Hewitt, of Valdosta, her sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Duval Larus of Naylor, and her husband Roger McCartney Budd, Sr. of Valdosta. (died March 1991).

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roger M. Budd Jr. and Julie Cole Budd of Valdosta, her daughter Bonnie Budd Hannah of Athens, and four grandchildren, Kayse Cole Budd, M.D. of Tucson, Arizona; Roger M. Budd III and wife Leslie Kennerly Budd of Valdosta, Tiffany Lyn Hannah of Athens, and Robert Gregory Hannah and fiancé Danielle Kidd of Athens.

Doris and her parents moved to Valdosta in 1928. She graduated from Valdosta High School and Terry Business School. She worked at Moody Air force base as a civil servant during World War III where she met Roger M. Budd, Sr. They married in 1945.

A former Miss Valdosta, she loved to travel and was in several bridge clubs. She was a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. She was in charge of Wednesday night suppers for many years. She enjoyed golf and helping with her sister’s clothing store “Evelyn’s.”

Visitation will be held Friday, May 18 at 10:30 am at Riverview mausoleum with a service following at 11:00 am.
