Doris F. Sumner, 87, of Hahira Georgia died on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Langdale Hospice House. She was born on August 14, 1929 to the late Etheridge and Corine Futch Fielding and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Sumner was the Manager of Allied Department Store in Adel and Valdosta Georgia. She also worked in the Admissions Department of Smith Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sumner was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sumner loved her family and her community. She expressed this love through her card ministry. Mrs. Sumner used cards and letters to spread the gospel. She touched countless lives through her words of encouragement. Mrs. Sumner was a remarkable woman who left a legacy of love and inspiration for her family.
Survivors include daughter in law, Susan Sumner of Nashville Georgia, daughter and son in law, Patricia and Dennis Gordon of Hahira Georgia, son, Scott Sumner of Alma Georgia, son and daughter in law, Michael and Mitzi Sumner of Boca Raton, Florida, son and daughter in law, Phillip and Barbara Sumner of Charleston, South Carolina and son and loving caregiver, Douglas Sumner of Hahira Georgia. Grandchildren, Buffy Reddick, Blaine Gordon, Richard Sumner, Brian Sumner, Bailey Sumner, Adam Sumner, Terra Sumner, Carl Sumner, Patrick Sumner, John Sumner, Amanda Smith; Great-Grandchildren, Zachary Reddick, Jessica Pafford, Ivey Salas, Lacey Reddick, Boone Gordon, Morgan Lewis, Grace Lewis, Lydia Lewis, Sammy Lewis, Augustus Lewis, Gavin Sumner, Haley Sumner, Troy Sumner, Braxton Sumner, Arianna Sumner, and Alexis Sumner; One great -great granddaughter, Jolie Kate Pafford; and her loving caregiver, Pam Nixon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Sumner, a son, Terrell Sumner, grandson, Dennis Todd Gordon, granddaughter Melissa Sumner Lewis, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Etheridge Fielding, and a sister and brother in law Helen and Leonard McDonald.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 3 at 11:00 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Reverend Ike Jefferson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery.
