Doris Clanton Giddens, 96, of Hahira died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Presbyterian Home in Quitman, GA. She was born on July 24, 1920 in Hahira to the late Paul Matthew Clanton, Sr. and Pauline Harris Clanton. Mrs. Giddens was a homemaker and was the oldest living member of Bethany Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Giddens was born, raised and lived on the family farm for most of her life.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jimmy and Linda Giddens of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Carolyn and Jerry Cross of Lake City, FL, Carla Jean and Gary McCullar of Friend, NE; six grandchildren, Beth Giddens, Donnie Crawford(Sonja), Robin Mims(Preston), Judy Prince(Phil), Glenda Kniefle and Lynn Jackson, sixteen great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren, one brother, Jack Clanton(Sheila) of Tallahassee, FL, several loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Giddens is preceded in death by her former husband, Carlton Giddens, three brothers, Eugene Clanton, Vonnie Clanton and Paul M. Clanton, Jr., three sisters, Lorene Coppage, Ila Garner and Inez Sellars, two grandsons, Jimmy Giddens, Jr. and Danny L. McCullar.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at two p.m. in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Reverend Terry Sellars officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from one p. m. until two p.m. prior to the service.
