Donnie Ray Belcher, 76, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, July 6, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia on January 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Jess Edward and Malinda Evelyn Barrett Belcher. Mr. Belcher worked as a driver for more than 48 years with Roadway Express, retiring in 2003. During his tenure with Roadway he was proud to be a part of an award recognition for setting a company record of 14, 620, 271 miles. He also received the safe driving award in 2001 for two million miles of accident free safe driving. A member of Lake Park United Methodist Church, he had a love for football, Nascar, golf, Gaither Gospel, and he enjoyed fishing and camping.
Survivors are his sons and daughters in law, Ronald Edward and Betty Belcher of Elizabethton, Tennessee, James Donald and Tammy Belcher of Jefferson City, Tennessee; daughters and sons in law, Terry Lynn and Joseph Kurowski of Hernando, Florida, Cynthia Lee and Dale Mallory of Valdosta; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gail Oreta Belcher, a brother, Howard Edward Belcher and a sister, Willie Mae Wells.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane
Funeral Home. Reverend Roger Mays will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
