Donald Leigh Larus, 87, of Naylor died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at home with his family by his side. He was born in Naylor on September 17, 1923 to the late Claude R. and Ida Leigh Larus. Donald was in the Army during WWII, a dispatcher for Owens-Illinois which is now PCA and was formerly associated with Ellinor Motor Company. Mr. Larus was a song leader for over 40 years, a deacon for 40 years and was ordained as a Southern Baptist Convention minister as well as a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Tomlinson Larus of Naylor; two daughters and sons in law, Dianne and Wesley Harrell of Naylor, Sherryll & John Mixon of Land-O-Lakes, FL; four grandchildren and their spouses, Dana and Joey Ellis of Naylor, Mark and Angie Harrell of Valdosta, Keri and Todd Stickler of Land-O-lakes, FL, and Ami and James Fitzgerald of West Palm Beach, FL; ten great grandchildren, Michael and Brittney Ellis, Dakoda Ellis, Wyatt Ellis, Brayden Harrell, Avery Harrell, Dylan Mixon, Chase Stickler, Conor Fitzgerald, Sean Fitzgerald and Colin Fitzgerald. Mr. Larus is preceded in death by one brother, Carrol Robert Larus.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at two p.m. at Naylor Baptist Church with Reverend Ross Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from five until seven p. m. Friday at the Naylor Baptist Church as well as Saturday from one to two before the service.
