Donald (Don) L. Allison, 77, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Langdale Hospice House. Born on June 7, 1932 in Newcastle, PA, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Allison. Mr. Allison served in the United States Army during the Korea Conflict. He attended Georgia Southern University where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree and then went on to West Georgia University, where he obtained his Master's Degree. He also obtained a 6 year degree from Valdosta State University. Mr. Allison was associated with the Valdosta City School System for 19 years serving as Assistant Principal and a Guidance Counselor. He was honored as a 50 year Mason from St. John the Baptist Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer with the Valdosta Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Allison was a member of the Classic Car Club of South GA and was also a devoted member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dr. Rosalie Allison of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Tom Robinson of Fitzgerald, Patti and Norman Burkhardt of Mercer, PA; grandchildren, Andrew and Amber Robinson of Valdosta, Patrick Robinson of Boise, ID, Matthew and Maggie Robinson of Atlanta, Scott and Amber Robinson of Warner Robbins, Sarah Beth Robinson, Anna Claire Robinson, Mary Rosalie Robinson and Laura Grace Robinson, all of Fitzgerald, Donna Powell and Cody Burkhardt, both of Mercer, PA and a number of great grandchildren. Mr. Allison is also survived by his sisters, Sue Hutto of Nashville, TN and Ethel and Bill Wooden of Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Onie Allison of Nashville, TN.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church with Dr. Craig Rikard and Rev. Willie Beasley officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
