Donald Grady Blair, Jr.

Donald Grady Blair, Jr., 79, of Quitman, died on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Born in Pittsburg, PA on November 16, 1926, to the late Donald Grady Sr. and Esther Givens Blair, he had been a lifelong resident of the Brooks County area. Mr. Blair was a veteran and served in the South Pacific during WWII, he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated from the Marion Military Institute in Alabama in 1947. He was a charter member of the VFW Brooks County Post #5659, was a retired farmer and bookkeeper and was a member of Hickory Head Baptist Church.

Mr. Blair is survived by his wife of 56 years, Deweece Blair, of Quitman; a son and daughter in law, Olin & Brenda Blair, of Quitman, daughter and son in law, Vida Ann and Bill Dowling of Savannah, daughter and son in law, Donnelle & Steve Sizemore of Gurnee, IL, daughter and dear friend, Dot Blair and Karen Asherbranner of Alpharetta, GA; seven grandchildren, Olin Blair, Jr., Madeline Blair, both of Quitman, Blair (Jonathan) Dowling, of Princeton, NJ, Ashley Dowling of Dudley, NC, Caitlin Dowling of Savannah, Parker Sizemore of Auburn, AL, and Blake Sizemore of Gurnee, IL. Also surviving are a brother and sister in law, George & Ruth Blair, and an aunt, Margaret Blair, all of Valdosta, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Blair will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Hickory Head Baptist Church. Rev. John O’Neil and Dr. Bill Dowling will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Head Baptist Church Cemetery.
