Dixie Lightsey

November 30, 1908 — April 10, 2005

Dixie “Mama” Lightsey, 96, of Clyattville, died on Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Presbyterian Home in Quitman following a brief illness. Born in Madison County, Florida to the late Arthur & Nora Zipperer Seals, she had been a life long resident of this area. She was very devoted to her church, Clyattville United Methodist Church, and taught middle grade children’s Sunday School Classes for many years and was active in the United Methodist Women. She loved children very much and in addition to her own children she was a foster parent for 10 or more children. She also baby sat for many other children over the years in her home. She also loved quilting and frequently taught others the art of quilting. She combined her interest in children and her church to involve her students in raising funds for the church and as a result, the education center at Clyattville United Methodist Church was named in her honor.

Survivors include four daughters and three sons in law, Laurie Bradley, of Cayce, SC, Lawanna & Bill Bland, of Clyattville, Norma & Gale Stimson, of Kingwood, TN, Delores & Donnie Powell of Warner Robbins, three sons and daughters in law, Samuel Tully & Elsa Lightsey of Blake, Walter Smith & Shirley Lightsey of Selma, AL, Joseph Stuart (Jody) & Nan Lightsey of Marion Junction, AL, another son in law, George Boyd, of Clover SC, a sister in law, Dorothy Seals, of Cottondale, FL, and an uncle, Sonny Seals, of Madison, FL. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and two nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter C. Lightsey, a daughter, Willadean Boyd, and a brother, Grover Seals.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Lightsey will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Clyattville United Methodist Church. Rev. Molly Danner will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Pinetta, FL. The family will receive friends at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2005.
