Dewitt Fletcher, 81, of Valdosta, died Thursday, December 27, 2007 at his residence. He was born on June 26, 1926 in Lowndes County to the late Zack and Ginnie Carter Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher was a carpenter, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Swilley Hill Church of God and was an avid saltwater fisherman.
Mr. Fletcher is survived by three sons and two daughters in law, Ronnie D. and Nancy Fletcher of Valdosta, Zack and Marie Fletcher of Jasper, GA, Don L. Fletcher of San Antonio, TX, one daughter and son in law, Jeannie and Darrell Barwick of Valdosta, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one brother and sister in law, Hulon and Joann Fletcher of Valdosta, seven sisters and four brothers in law, Geraldine Giddens of Lancaster, California, Ava Nell and Emmerson Witherspoon of Valdosta, Nell and Ed Wilson of Hahira, Irene and Cecil Scarborough, Joyce Ruiss, Jean Lewis and Gloria and Etheridge Coppage of Valdosta. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Mitchell Fletcher and one brother, Freeman C. Fletcher.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2007 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Frier and Reverend Bryan Sayre officiating.
