Dewey Madison Carlisle, Sr.

Dewey Madison Carlisle, Sr., 90, of Valdosta and formerly of Alexandria, Louisiana passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Lakehaven Nursing Home in Valdosta. Mr. Carlisle was a United States Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his working life, he was a Funeral Director with Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria, Louisiana retiring after thirty three years of service and served as the general manager from 1961 until his retirement. Mr. Carlisle was a member of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association having served in all offices and the Board of Directors; was past president of the Alexandria Rotary Club. Mr. Carlisle was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lillian Scarbrough Carlisle and his parents, Harvey Madison and Edna Hawkins Carlisle.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Dewey "Mat" Carlisle, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Abeerdeen, Washington, his daughter, Cynthia Carlisle Neck and her husband, David of Valdosta, grandchildren, Joseph Carlisle, Daniel Carlisle, Katherine Carlisle, Samuel Carlisle, Rachael Carlisle, David Randall Neck and Laura Katherine Neck, great grandchildren, Rhett Carlisle, Elise Carlisle, Ashton Carlisle, Tristan Neck and Isabella Neck; and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral services for Dewey Madison Carlisle, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Hixson Brothers Chapel in Alexandrida with Rev. David Shaw officiating. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Park in Pineville. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 5-9pm at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.
