James Franklin "Deuce" Johnson, 69, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at South Georgia Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Valdosta on September 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Luther and Piety Hall Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired from Texture Tex and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. An unforgettable character, he was an avid fan of sports and Valdosta State University.
Survivors are his brother and sister in law, Tom and Lee Johnson of Daphne, Alabama; a niece and her husband, Leigh Ann and Chip Champion of Perry, a nephew and his wife, Tom, Jr. and Lisa Johnson of Collierville, Tennessee; great nieces, Claire Champion, Camille Johnson and a great nephew, Fulton Johnson, III.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hahira. Reverend Jack Atkinson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Carson McLane Funeral is serving the family of Mr. Deuce Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Gary Colson Rebels Basketball Scholarship Fund at Valdosta State Univeristy 1500 N. Patterson St. Valdosta GA 31698.
