Debra Rose Dart, 67, of Valdosta, died on Monday, August 3, 2020. Born in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Rosa Anness and Sherman Votaw. With a major in Middle Grade Education and a minor in Cultural Anthropology, Mrs. Dart taught school at Clyattville Elementary School. An empowering person, Debra’s passion was teaching where she was gifted in bringing out the best in her students and future teachers. She enjoyed spending time with family and co-workers, shopping and going out to the movies.
Survivors are her sons, Michael (Diane) Chaney of Atlanta, Christopher (Debbie) Chaney of Valdosta; daughters, Amanda Dart and Kimberlee Dart both of Valdosta; 12 grandchildren and 3 grand dogs; two brothers, Joel (Windy) Votaw of Mississippi and Jerrell (Marsha) Votaw of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James David Chaney and a sister, Gloria Gayle Votaw.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The family desires that social distancing is honored, and masks be worn during the visitation. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia. Carson McLane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
