Deborah Wright Casey ,75, of Valdosta, Georgia passed away on January 2, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She will be buried at the Georgia National Military Cemetery in Canton, Ga. Deborah was born September 27, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, the only daughter of Joseph H. and Shirley (Brown) Wright. Deborah graduated from Osborne High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, she attended Valdosta State University until 1969. Between her sophomore and junior years, she worked as a Flight Attendant for Eastern Airlines. She returned to college earning her B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy in 1975. She earned a masters of Special Education with specializations in Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders from Vanderbilt University, Peabody School of Education in 1977.
Deborah is survived by her husband Lt. Col. Rodney N. Casey, her son Hunter (Ashley) Casey of Clarksville, TN, stepson Jeff (Diana) Casey of Dallas, TX, and her precious granddaughters Madison Elizabeth, Charlotte Claire, Ada Elaine. She had numerous nephews and one niece she claimed as her adopted daughter, Amy Swanger. She was blessed with numerous cousins especially her much beloved cousin-adopted sister, Sherry Cowart.
Deborah followed her military husband around teaching from Tennessee to Florida to many other places before landing in Valdosta. Her peers voted her Teacher of the Year in 1989. She finished her teaching career in 2006. After leaving teaching there was nothing she liked better than working in her little gardens, taking care of her dogs, enjoying time with different family members, putting up fresh fruit, baking peach pound cake for anyone interested, crocheting for family, friends, and later Hunter’s military brothers. As long as she was physically able she could be found at daily and Sunday mass. Her spiritual life is her driving force. She lived in humble gratitude her whole adult life that God saved her, the prodigal daughter, and blessed her with so many graces. First the best being the opportunity to have her son and raise him with Rod. The second, for God to bless her with a long enough life to see Him bring three new granddaughters into her family. These were her life’s most meaningful and satisfying adventures.
