Debbie May Baker, 64, of Valdosta, died on Friday, October 18, 2019, at South Georgia Medical Center following a short illness. Born in Valdosta on January 9, 1955, she was a daughter of the late Olee and Viola May Smith. Debbie worked as a Grand Jury Secretary and Assistant Office Manager for the District Attorney’s Office of the Southern Judicial Circuit for 18 years. Although dedicated to her job, she loved spending time with family, was a great cook, dearly loved her fur babies and cherished time working in her yard. Come what may in all situations, Debbie was “The Rock” of her family.

Survivors are her daughter, Sarah Baker of Valdosta, brother, Jerome Smith of Quitman, sister, Jeanette Smith of Valdosta; many nieces and nephews. Debbie was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, George Michael Baker; her parents, a brother, Edgar Wayne Smith and sisters, Joann Carter and Betty Jean Smith.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, October 23, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. No formal services will be held.
