David Scott Slocum, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on May 18, 1955 in Valdosta, GA to the late Joseph Raymond Slocum and Pauline “Polly” (Peacock) Slocum. The youngest of their three children, Scott grew up very close to his older brothers – Joseph Raymond “Jody” Slocum, Jr. and Dr. Jeffrey Alan Slocum. An avid musician, Scott played in the Valdosta High School marching band - The Marchin’ Cats. He attended Valdosta State College where he majored in History. Scott also was an exceptional golfer, winning countless tournaments across the southeast. Eventually, he turned his aptitude for building relationships into a successful career as a representative of direct sales products. His impact is measured in the overwhelming number of friendships he maintained throughout his life. His ability to connect with people was a gift he treasured.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Polly Slocum (1995), his father, Joe Slocum (2015), his brother, Dr. Jeff Slocum (2012), his brother Jody Slocum (2019), and former spouse Constance Vickery Slocum (1999). He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Slocum Brown and Gifford Brown (Austin, TX), his 2 sisters-in-law, Kay Payne Slocum (Tifton, GA) and Beth Powell Slocum (Cordele, GA), his 7 nieces and nephews, Katy Slocum Richter (Gray, GA), Julie Slocum von Hellens (Thomasville, GA), Jay Slocum (Charleston, SC), Claire Slocum Byrnes (Tifton, GA), Kathi Slocum Gapps (Columbus, GA), Amy Slocum Goode (Atlanta, GA) and Becky Slocum Mason (Atlanta, GA). He is also survived by his cousins, Carla Wilkerson Lunceford (Valdosta, GA), Andy Slocum (Columbia, NC) and Cindy Slocum Knehr (White Salmon, WA).
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
