David Randolph Whitfield, Sr., 80, of Lake Park, died on Monday, February 20, 2017 at his home. Born in Anderson, SC., on May 09, 1936, he was the son of the late Swain and Arliva Dickerson Whitfield. Mr. Whitfield received his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He was retired Assistant Chief with the Valdosta Police Department where he had co-founded the drug squad and the DUI School. A faithful member and Elder of the Lake Park Christian Church, he loved to sing gospel music and was well known for his singing ministry at nursing homes in the surrounding area. He was an Exchange Club member and an avid golfer. Mr. Whitfield loved spending time with his fur babies, Kitty Mister, Sister Blackie and Grayson.
Survivors are his devoted wife of 59 years, Kathryn Whitfield of Lake Park; his children, Wanda (John) Aultman , Julie DeHoff of Valdosta, David "Randy" Randolph Whitfield, Jr., of Lake Park, Dianna Lynn Whitfield of Quitman, Christy (John) Waldron of Griffin; grandchildren, Justin Wright of Valdosta, Ronald, Jr. (Dominy) DeHoff of Lake Park, Christopher (Amy) DeHoff of Valdosta, Kerry (Stephanie) DeHoff of Calhoun, Stephanie DeHoff of Valdosta, Brittany (Matt) Fitzgerald of Echols County, Candice (David) Wells of Valdosta, Tabatha Singletary Whitfield of Moultrie; fourteen great grandchildren; special nephew, Gary Whitfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Clarence Whitfield, Horace Whitfield, Harold "Bud" Whitfield and a sister, Margaret Eslinger.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Lake Park Christian Church. Rev. Larry Harden and Rev. Glen Everette will officiate. Burial will follow at Lake Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or to Southern Care Hospice in Moultrie.
