David Lee (Barney) Sorrell

David Lee (Barney) Sorrell, 71, of Cherry Lake in Madison, FL and formerly of Hahira passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at his home. He was born in Hahira on October 23, 1944 to the late William (Bill) and Mamie Hamner Sorrell. Mr. Sorrell was a Baptist and owned and operated Cook County Wood Preserving in Adel for many years. He enjoyed playing basketball, horseback riding, fishing, boating and water skiing. Mr. Sorrell loved spending time with children, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Courson Taylor Sorrell of Cherry Lake, FL; his daughters and sons in law, Lisa and John Phillips of Clarksville, TN, Mandy and Mario Munguia of Adel; his sons and daughters in law, Davy and Stephanie Sorrell of Adel, David and Sissy Taylor of St. Augustine, FL; his grandchildren, Tessa Lee of Okinawa, Japan, Jodie McKinnon of Ft. Campbell, KY, Terri McLaggan of Columbus, GA, Matthew Phillips of Clarksville, TN, Dana Welch, Anthony Hayes, Kayla Munguia, Josh Munguia all of Adel, Hunter Sorrell of Adel, Garrett Sorrell of Ft. Bragg, NC, Hannah Hendley, Bethany Hendley both of Adel, Tyler Tillman of St. Augustine, FL, Dylan Tillman of Edgewater, FL and Allie Meadows of Jacksonville, FL; 11-great grandchildren; his sister and brother in law, Melba and Sam Locher of Hahira and his brother, Billy Sorrell of Barney, GA. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leola Johnson Sorrell and a sister in law, Sandi Sorrell.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, April 14, 2016 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Boykin and Mr. Nathan Wooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery near Cecil. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
