David H. White, Valdosta, passed from this life October 17, 2005. Born in Burdette, Arkansas, he was the son of David Hester and Stella Martin White. He received his B. S. in History from Arkansas Tech before entering the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He played basketball for his unit in Yokohama, Japan. He returned home to teach and coach in his home town and earn a B. S. in Physical Education at Arkansas State. In 1964 he moved to Valdosta and continued to teach and coach. At Georgia Southern he earned Masters degrees in P.E., in Administration and Supervision. He retired from Lowndes County Schools in 1990. He was a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ and served as a deacon and an elder for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sara Ellen Dasher White, son, Tim White and daughter, Jenny White of Valdosta; 3 sisters: Mildred Dever of Florissant, MO., Ethel (Leon) Black, Valdosta and Snow (Max) Griggs, Fairview, TN; 4 brothers: Warner (Valla Jo) White, Poplar Bluff, MO., Herman (Jolly) White, Lake Elsinore, CA, Roy (Ethelene) white, Union City, TN and Henry (Marilyn) White, Columbia, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Herbert White.
Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2005 at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at Central Avenue Church of Christ, 304 East Central Avenue, Valdosta with John Klimko, C. J. Moffett and the Elders officiating. Interment will follow at Dasher Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund, Central Church of Christ.
