David W. Dillard, 84, native of Hahira, Georgia, passed from this life on Saturday March 30, 2024, at The Canopy in Valdosta. Born on May 9, 1939, David was the son of the late Joseph Newton Dillard and Marion Barfield. A lifelong cattleman, he served on the Board of Directors of the American Brahman Breeders Association from 1995 – 1996 in Houston, Texas. A well know cattle breeder, David bred Black Angus, Simmental-Simbrah and Brahman cattle which he shipped all over the world including the countries of Ecuador, Thailand, Columbia, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico. He was a strong supporter of Future Farmers of America. David was married to Elaine Stith in 1958 and they were married for 66 years.
Survivors are his wife, Elaine; sister-in-law, Peggy (Jimmy) Shiver of Valdosta, nephews, Ellis Shiver, Bart (Amy) Shiver and Todd (Kelly) Shiver; other numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dillard was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services for Mr. Dillard will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Martin McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Mike Davis and Mr. Brant Lindsey will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Hahira. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Friendship Cemetery Fund or to the Georgia Sheriffs Boys Ranch. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
