Darrell Lee Bussey

DARRELL LEE BUSSEY, 65, of Hahira, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 19, 2009.

Darrell was born July 14, 1944 in Valdosta, a son of the late Vascoe Bussey and the late Lawanna Deloach Parramore. He grew up in the Valdosta area and served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1964. In 1962 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Ann Ross, and in 1968 he and his family moved to Atlanta, returning to this area in 2003 at their present property. Darrell had been Vice President of Naturally Fresh Distributing Co., and after almost 20 years he resigned to pursue other entrepreneurial interests.

He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He loved family time and enjoyed fishing and socializing with his truck-stop buddies.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Ann Bussey, he is survived by two daughters, Rita and husband Ken Hooper of Jackson, and Christi and husband Keith Barber of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Kenny and wife Anna Hooper of Monticello, Carrie and Katy Hooper of Jackson, and Austin and Ansley Barber of Fayetteville; one great-granddaughter, Chloe Hooper of Jackson; two sisters, Geralene and husband Harold Easler of Hahira, and Brenda Hawke of Hahira; an aunt, Leila Sale of Valdosta; an uncle, Herman Deloach of Valdosta; his mother-in-law, Christine Ross of Valdosta; a sister-in-law, Tina Kent of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Bussey, his grandparents, Laura Bell and Roy Bussey and Tom and Doley Deloach, a brother-in-law, Calvin Hawke, uncles, Gordon Sale, Harvey, Capris, Edgar and Cary Deloach, aunts, Alberta Wilkes, Abline Miller, Flossie Cooper, and Carrie Harris, and his father-in-law, Harvey Ross.

Funeral Services for Mr. Bussey will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Hayes, Dr. Benny Tate, and Rev. Ike Jefferson officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. The Bussey family will receive friends at the Martin-McLane Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening.
