Darrel Lannis Hall, Sr.

Darrel Lannis Hall, Sr., 65, of Valdosta passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family following an extended illness. He was born September 13, 1949 in Valdosta, a son of the late Lannis B. & Doris King Hall. Following his graduation from Lowndes High School, he honorably served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. He was wounded in the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Medal. He and his father Founded H & H Concrete Company, where he worked for eighteen years. He worked with the Georgia Department of Corrections at Patten Probation and Detention Center and Lowndes State Prison. He entered fire service in 1982 and served as Assistant Chief at Westside Fire from 1992 to 1998 and Chief at Westside from 1998 until 2000, when he became Lowndes County Fire Marshal. Darrel worked as Lowndes County Fire Marshall until his retirement in July 2014.
Darrel was a member of the Georgia Fire Inspectors Association, the Georgia Fire Investigators Association, the Southwest Georgia Chiefs Association, the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He held certificates as Georgia Basic Firefighter, First Class Firefighter, Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations, Structural Fire Control, National Incident Management System Level 100, 200, 300, 400, National Fire Academy Fire/Arson Cause Investigations, and was a Georgia Deputized Fire Marshal. Darrel was Lowndes County Firefighter of the year in 1996 and 2010.
Darrel was an active member of Ousley Baptist Church. He was cared for at home by his devoted wife, family and caregivers of Hospice of South Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Anita G. Hall of Valdosta; two sons, Shawn Hall and Darrel Hall, Jr. both of Valdosta; three daughters, Stacy Anderson and husband Eric of Hahira, Brittany McElroy and Brittney Hall, both of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Savannah Hall, Ethan Cox, Halle May Cox, Hunter Hall, Levi Hall and Trinity McElroy; two brothers, Tommy Hall and Jimmy Dean Hall, both of Valdosta; a sister, Debra Smith and husband Robert of Morven; numerous nieces and nephews; his father in law and mother in law, Thomas and Alsie Cook of Valdosta; special longtime friend Jim Fielding and Darrel's beloved canine friend, St. Pepper.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Clyde Stokes officiating. Interment with Fire Department honors will follow at Ousley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November, 25 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
