Dannette (Dana) Preston Thomas, 64, of Valdosta died Sunday, December 1, 2019 at her home. She was born in Lovett, Texas on October 2, 1955 to the late William Charles and Guythea Madonna Wade Preston and had lived in Twin Lakes and Valdosta for many years. She was a Christian and retired after thirty years of service as Program Director of Shelter Plus Care with Behavioral Health Services. Her greatest joy in life was being Nana to her grandchildren, John and Emily and caring for her dogs, Maggie and Shorty. She was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan, member of the Elks Lodge and her favorite place to be was at the beach with her family. Ms. Thomas was awarded caregiver of the year from National Association of Social Workers of Georgia. The family expresses appreciation to Halcyon Hospice for their love and care of Dana during her illness.
Survivors include her daughter, Amanda Anderson; her two grandchildren, John Anderson and Emily Anderson all of Lake Park; a special aunt, Anita Chandler of Colorado; numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Madonna (Donna) Bramlett.
Memorial services will be held at 11am, Thursday, December 5, 2019 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Skip Van Nus and Mr. Justin Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10am-11am at the funeral home. Ms. Thomas’ urn will be interred at a later date at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Berlin.
