Dan Odom, Jr.

Dan Odom, Jr., 72, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Everett Daniel Odom, Jr. was born in Valdosta on September 1, 1945 to the late Everett Daniel, Sr., and Rebecca Eugenia Caldwell Odom. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during Vietnam as a medic with the 1st Air Cavalry and 101st Airborne. Dan graduated from Valdosta High School and Valdosta State College and worked as an R.N. at South Georgia Medical Center and Heritage House. He was retired.
Dan was a voracious reader and history buff with a wonderful sense of humor and a keen, sharp wit. He was a member of New Covenant Church.
Survivors include his sister, Rebecca Anne Odom of Valdosta; his twin sister and brother-in-law, Danice and Rick Tyson of Mexico Beach, Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Linda Odom of Glennville, Georgia and Tom Odom and Susan Hendricks of Lake Worth, Florida; an uncle, John Richard Caldwell of Glendora, California; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, a great-niece and great-nephews.
A graveside service for Dan will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13th at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of South Georgia Regional Library, Inc., P.O. Box 5511 Valdosta, GA 31603; Lowndes County Historical Society, P.O.
