Dale Westbrook Haynes, 66, of Ray City, died on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born in Athens, Georgia on August 25, 1948 to the late William L. and Sarah Westbrook Haynes. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Viet Nam War where he was awarded the bronze star, the Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry and a purple heart. He later entered law school and earned a Juris Doctorate but in the end decided not to enter the law profession. He retired from Watervliet Arsenal in Albany, New York as a painter. Mr. Haynes was a civil war history buff and enjoyed all things historical. He had a passion for both reading and music and spent countless hours playing his guitar. Mr. Haynes was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Ann Haynes of Ray City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Doug and Sonia Haynes of Yonkers, New York and Chandler Haynes of Ray City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Monica Haynes of Hahira and Cathy and Fred Lyda of Edneyville, North Carolina; his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, Gabriel Michael Haynes of Yonkers, New York, Layla Sienna Haynes of Hahira, and Chloe Lyda of Edneyville, North Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marc and Veronica Haynes of Rosanky, Texas, Robert and Ruthie Haynes of Laredo, Texas, Randy and Ginny Haynes of Marietta, Georgia, and Joshua and Megan Haynes of Athens, Georgia; a brother-in-law, Harry Schomberg of Washington D.C.; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Thelma and Rudy Buchanan of Greenville, Florida and George Wynn of Moultrie; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gretchen Naomi Haynes and his sister, Joy Schomberg.
Services for Dale Westbrook Haynes will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 in the chapel of the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Rev. John Allen and Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. The burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Morven.
