Dale Smith Phillips

Dale Smith Phillips, 85, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at her residence after a brief illness. She was born in Atlanta, GA on February 21, 1923 to the late Norman Earl and Jeannette Guthrie Smith. Mrs. Phillips was a school teacher for over thirty years, most recently with the Valdosta City School System. She was a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, president of Chi Omega Sorority @ Oglethorpe University in Atlanta from where she attended and graduated and received her Bachelor of Science degree, advisor to Chi Omega Sorority at Valdosta State University and was a loan officer for Valdosta Teachers Federal Credit Union. Mrs. Phillips was an avid reader and loved daily local and world events. She had the kindest heart and sweetest personality and loved her family and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by two daughters and one son in law, Jan Castleberry of Valdosta, Gwen and John Cloninger of Louisville, TN, five grandchildren, Kristen Arnold (Jon), Lt. Col. Richard Rogers (Stacy), Robert Rogers (Stephanie), Wendy Campbell (Dwight) and Holly Rogers (Mitch Mink), eight great grandchildren, Emma Arnold, Hannah Rogers, Maggie Campbell, Lauren Rogers, Abby Rogers, Brandon Arnold, Travis Rogers and Olivia Campbell, two honorary daughters, Joanna Hoyle-Davis and Ann Hasty. She is preceded in death by her son, Bobby Phillips, her husband, Robert H. Phillips and her sister, Phylis Smith.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 1:30 p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Ulysses Mims officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
