CURTIS J. CONE, 75, of Valdosta died Friday, January 14, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Thomasville on January 27, 1929 to the late Jesse Dallas and Idella Sheffield Cone and was raised by his aunt, Mrs. Clifford Cone. He was with the Valdosta Fire Department form 1952-1991 serving as assistant fire chief for thirty years. Mr. Cone was a member of the Elks Club, Dixie Cream Donut Club and his passion was farming. Mr. Cone was a member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son in law, Linda and Gary Dallas of Nashville, TN., one son and daughter in law, Dean and Lynne Cone of Hahira, four grandchildren, Rett Dallas and his wife, Kim of Bowling Green, KY., Kristen Summers and her husband, Josh of Nashville, TN., Justin Cone and his wife, Dawn of Adel and Jacob Cone of Hahira, four great grandchildren, Carder and Aby Dallas of Bowling Green, KY., Hagan Cone of Adel, Cooper Summers of Nashville, TN., one sister, Ruby Nell Stripling of Moultrie and two brothers, Kelly Cone of Alabama and Henry Cone of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, January 16, 2005 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Firemen burial rites will be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
