Clyde (Racy) Parrish

Clyde (Racy) Parrish, 94, of Belle Glade, FL, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, at the Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta.

He was born in Metter, GA, in 1921. Raised during the depression with nine other siblings; the family walked from Metter to Wauchula, FL. After his father died when he was just 13, he worked very hard to help support the large family. During his high school years, he excelled in sports earning many accolades and the nickname Racy. He married the love of his life Nonnie in 1941 and had three children. During World War II he honorably served in the U.S. Navy. He was active in his community, the Elks Lodge, First Baptist Church of Belle Glade, where he was one of the oldest members, and had served a term as mayor of Belle Glade during the 1960's. Racy had a love of gardening, producing many fruits and vegetables. He was also well known for sharing his homemade pound cakes, pickles, and strawberry jam.

Mr. Parrish is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Martha Parrish of Valdosta, and Pete Parrish of Marietta; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Ellison of Belle Glade, FL; eight grandchildren, Brian Parrish, Michael Parrish, Jennifer Godfrey, Melissa Gibson, Jon Bramlett, Chandler Ellison, Christian Ellison and John Ellison; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Jewel Galley of Leesburg, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Virgil and Fadie Youmans Parrish, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nonnie Spikes Parrish; three brothers, Almon, Dick and Clifford; and five sisters, Zera, Virgie, Jeffie, Zannie and Jim.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Parrish will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Belle Glade, FL. Interment will follow at Port Mayaca Cemetery, Port Mayaca, FL. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta.
