Clinton Payton Powell

Clinton Payton Powell, 89, of Valdosta died Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House after Lewy Body Dementia for several years. He was born in Ashburn, Georgia on July 8, 1925 to the late Tommie Lucille and Harvey Warren Powell, Sr. Mr. Powell was a retired conductor from Norfolk Southern Railway, a United States Navy Veteran and a member of Westside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Tomlinson Powell of Valdosta, four children and their spouses, Judy and Larry Wilkinson, Gayle and Johnny Johnson, Dale and Lavonne Powell all of Valdosta, Nancy and Ned Simmons of Barwick; eleven grandchildren, Chuck Wilkinson, Jennifer (Matt) Thomas, Jason (Andrea) Wilkinson, Debbie (Kevin) Herring, John (Rachel) Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Stephanie Powell, Julie (Chad) Rischar, Justin (Christy) Powell, Heather Simmons and Lexie Simmons, eight great grandchildren, Garrett and Caitliln Herring, Faith Johnson, Solomon and Kinnan Rischar, Parker and Charter Thomas, Bowen Wilkinson; his sister, Hettie Busby of Gatlinburg, TN, his brother, Harvey W. (Melba) Powell of Valdosta and his sister, Diana (Julian) Dent of Lincolnton and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hollis Powell of Palatka, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, August 11, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Ernie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10am until service time at the funeral home. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602.
