Clinton Morgan Slocumb, Jr. of Lake Park, GA, passed away Monday March 13, 2023.
Clint was born August 25, 1937, in Douglas, GA, to the late Willie Mae and Clint Slocumb, Sr.
As a child, he was a member of Douglas Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America, and was a graduate of Douglas High School and attended Gordan Military Jr. College and Georgia Tech.
In 1958, he met the love of his life, Barbara Taylor, his lifelong dancing partner and they married in 1959. Clint was Public Finance Manager in Atlanta from 1959-1962. In 1962, he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army Reserve and moved to Lake Park to help with the Taylor family farm. Clint received his real estate license in 1963 and worked with Emory Bass Real Estate Company. In 1965, he received his real estate broker license and formed Slocumb Insurance and Realty Co. where he enjoyed a long 35-year career and retired in 1996.
In the early 1970’s, Clint and friend Blake Ellis developed Eastwind Subdivision in Valdosta, and later on Clint developed the Perimeter Park Condos, duplexes, and single-family homes. In 1974, he was elected and served as the youngest President of Valdosta Board of Realtors.
Clint served his community on the Lake Park City Council, Lowndes County Industrial Authority, and the Lowndes Valdosta Zoning Committee. Clint was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church for 60 years and served on several committees including Moderator, Trustee Committee, Insurance Committee, Personnel Committee, Stewardship Committee, Paster Search Committee, taught Youth Sunday School and was a member of the Sonshine Sunday School Class.
After his retirement, Clint and Barbara enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Clint’s fondest memories were spending time with his children and grandchildren in St Augustine/Crescent Beach, FL. Clint was a devoted Lowndes Vikings and Georgia Bulldog fan and loved attending football games especially the UGA 1980 National Championship. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing golf. At home, Clint enjoyed fishing, horseback and motorcycle riding, playing ping-pong and billiards, relaxing pool days, and watching beautiful sunsets with a cigar on their “Golden Pond.”
Clint is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Taylor Slocumb, of Lake Park; daughters, Vicki Gardocki (John DiCioccio and son AJ DiCioccio), Sandy Hayden (Rob Alger) and Leslie Parker (Dr. David Parker); grandchildren, Brianna Gardocki, Taylor Hayden, Curt Hayden, Drew Parker, (Meagan), Hannah Parker, Trent Parker, and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Clint is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Morgan Hayden, and brothers Carl Slocumb Sr. and Richard Slocumb.
A memorial service will be held at 2p.m. on Friday March 17, 2023 at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Dawson, of First Baptist Church of Lake Park, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
