Claudine C. Ator, 99, of Valdosta died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Langdale Place. She was born on June 8, 1913 in Lake Odessa, Michigan to the late John Sherman Caie and Marion Wright Caie and had formerly resided in Washington, DC before moving to Valdosta in 1998. Mrs. Ator was retired as executive secretary to the Director of Carnegie Institute of Washington, DC. She was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and the Home Builders Sunday School Class. Mrs. Ator was a member of the PEO, Chapter Y, DAR-General James Jackson Chapter in Valdosta. She loved to travel and enjoyed reading to the students at Moulton Branch Elementary School.
Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Col. Robert A. and Sylvia Ator of Valdosta, Wayne Spencer and Cassie Ator of Palm Island, FL, her daughter and son in law, Jeanne Ann and Jim Costello of Ft. Townsend, WA, her grandchildren, Stacey A. and Lt. Col. Dave Klinkicht of Goldsboro, NC, Lt. Col Robert A. II, and Michelle Ator of Little Rock, AR., Lt. Col. William H. and Suzy Ator of Soignies, Belgium, Cassie Ann Habegger of Indianapolis, IN, Allison and Chris Vaccaro of Atlanta, Major Brandt and Molly Niewenhous of Arlington, VA, Tracy and Chad Findley of Greenville, SC, 13-great grandchildren. Mrs. Ator was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Avon Ator.
Memorial services will be held at 11am, Monday, October, 22, 2012 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Hale Bishop and Rev. David Tart officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 4-6pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 101 E.
