Claudean B. (Deanie) Stone, 95, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. Born in Hartwell, Georgia on June 19, 1918, she was a daughter of the late William Howard and Lois Cook Brown. Deanie grew up in Hartwell and graduated from high school in Hart County where she was very athletic and played basketball. She met her future husband, Wilton E. Stone, in Hartwell and they were married on Christmas Eve, 1935. The Stone's made their home in Swainsboro for several years before moving to Lakeland in 1951 when Mr. Stone became Principal at Lanier County High School. Deanie soon started working on her teaching degree at Valdosta State College and went on to teach school in Lanier County until her retirement in the late 1970's. She enjoyed the game of golf and played frequently after moving to Valdosta in the early 1980's. They were members of the Valdosta Country Club and played golf every day, weather permitting. Having grown up singing with her family, she had a lifelong love of music and playing the piano. Deanie truly enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers.
