Claude Roark

Claude Roark, 89, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Langdale Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born July 20, 1924 in Jackson, Kentucky.

Mr. Roark was one of the first Motorcycle Traffic Police Officers in Valdosta, and after many years of service he retired from Sears as a Service Technician. He was a member of The Gathering, was a Mason and a Shriner. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Mr. Roark enjoyed fishing, motorcycling and camping. If something was broken, he could fix it.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Barbara Alligood Roark of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Roark Martin and Alex of Valdosta; son, Claude Allen Roark of Valdosta; two grandsons, Trey Martin of Newnan, and Blake Claude Martin of Valdosta; one great-granddaughter, Payton Renee Martin of Houston, TX; two brothers, Clyde Roark of Valdosta, and Gene and wife Mary Roark of Albany; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Roark; his mother, Alvida Coody; two sisters, Blanche Smith and Carmie Colley; and two brothers, Arthur Roark and Everett Roark.

The Roark family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Langdale Hospice House and the staff of South Georgia Medical Center for the wonderful care and support provided to Mr. Roark and his family.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Roark will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Minton officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
