Clarice Zipperer Smith

CLARICE ZIPPERER SMITH, 80, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She was born March 18, 1929 in Irwinville, a daughter of the late Bunie and Lucy McNesse Jefferson. She was a loving wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Clarice was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Valdosta.

In addition to her husband, Wilson Smith of Valdosta, she is survived by four children: Nell Z. Ricketts and husband Allan Ricketts of Valdosta, Becky McDonald and husband Robert McDonald of Hahira, Oscar S. Zipperer and wife Diane Zipperer of Valdosta, and Paul W. Zipperer and wife Sherry Zipperer of Valdosta; nine grandchildren: Christopher A. Ricketts and wife Brooke L. Ricketts, David A. Ricketts, Shawn McDonald and wife Dee McDonald, Tadd Zipperer and wife Kali Zipperer, Jessica Wehner and husband Michael Wehner, Amanda Elliott and husband Travis Elliott, Kyle McDonald, Jada Zipperer, and Bill Zipperer; one great-grandson: Christopher Larkin Ricketts; one step-great-granddaughter, Clair Tullis; and she was eagerly anticipating the arrival of two additional great-grandchildren this fall; one sister: Nancy O'Quinn, wife of the late Rev. Donald O'Quinn, of Valdosta; one brother: Charles Jefferson and wife Hazel Jefferson of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Alice Thompson, and a brother, Bernard Jefferson.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Moon and Rev. Diane Shedd officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to the First United Methodist Church, 220 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA 31602.
