Clarence "CH" Heidemann, 88, of Valdosta, and Woodbridge, VA died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Fairfax Hospital in Virginia.
Born in New Wells, MO to Louis and Alma Heidemann on February 4, 1923, Clarence was raised, along with his brother, Norbert, and sister, Mildred, in Port Huron, MI and Chicago Heights, IL. Upon graduation from Bloom High School he served in Europe during World War II as a charter member of the Ninth Air Corps 30th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Technical Sergeant and went on to earn degrees from Valparaiso University in Physics and Geography.
Clarence joined National Container Corp in 1955 which became Owens-Illinois a year later. In his 30 years with OI, he worked in the Tomahawk, WI, Big Island, VA and Valdosta mills. He retired in 1985 as Plant Manager of the Valdosta plant.
Clarence served on a number of local boards including Valwood School, Valdosta State College Foundation, YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Lowndes County Airport Authority and C&S National Bank. He was a member of Rotary International for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Violet Lucy Easton and children, Lisa (Eric Brinkmann) of Woodbridge, VA, Douglas of Valdosta and Mark (Teri) of Concord, NC. He has two grandchildren, Emili and Evan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Messiah Lutheran Church at 11 am. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in his name to Messiah Lutheran Church or Park Avenue United Methodist Church.
