Clara Moody Dennis

Clara Moody Dennis, 95, of Lake Park, died on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at her residence following a period of declining health. She was born in Burlington, North Carolina on January 27, 1924 to the late Thomas C. and Maude Staley Moody. She graduated from Broadstreet High School in Burlington in 1940 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1946 where she began her career with Southern Bell Telephone Company and worked in both accounting and engineering departments. She retired after 37 years of service with the phone company. Mrs. Dennis was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Communication Workers of America. She was a former member of Main Street Baptist Church in Jacksonville and a current member of Lake Park Christian Church.
She is survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Fred Maxwell of Jacksonville, Florida, Roberta and Robby Robertson of Valdosta, Molly Sauls of Valdosta, Kathy Booth of Lake Park and Bonnie Dennis of Lake Park; four step-grandchildren and their spouses, Patrick and Stacey Dennis, Georgia and Kevin Haldifer, Catherine and Dan Cooper, and Christian Sanford all of Birmingham, Alabama; ten step-great-grandchildren; step-daughter-in –law, Mary Anne Dennis of Jacksonville, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, S.E. “Sam” Dennis; four sisters, Margaret Reitzell, Lucille Wilkerson, Lois Thomas, Anne Shepard; and three brothers, John Moody, Dwight Moody, and Thomas Moody.
Services for Clara Moody Dennis will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park with Rev. Yancey Hartman and Mr. David Lehman officiating. The burial will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
