Claire Spriggs Marrs, 77, of Valdosta died on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Albany on May 4, 1938, Claire was a daughter of the late Andrew Pinkney and Carolyn Weston Squires. She was an extraordinary homemaker and a member of First Christian Church. Claire was enthusiastically active in many local and regional civic and social organizations, some of which include, The Lunch Divas of '56, the Retired Officers Wives Club, the Literary Guild, Readers Review, I.G.S., Tillman Calendar Group, The Amaryllis Garden Club, Wymodausis, National Society of the Daughters of the American Colonists, and General James Jackson Chapter of the National Society of the Daughter of the American Revolution. She was a writer, a teller of colorful stories, an avid reader and an excellent cook. Claire's delectable dishes and recipes won Grand Champion so many times in the annual Valdosta Daily Times Cook Off that she was asked to MC the event. Claire unequivocally loved life, she will be remembered for her flamboyant character, her generosity, her candor, her infectious laughter, and her smile. She was as her favorite saying goes, "Jam Up and Jelly Tight".
Survivors are her husband, Harry Marrs of Gilbert, Arizona, sons, Jeff Marrs of Gilbert, Arizona, Weston Spriggs of Valdosta; adopted son Randy Rector of Valdosta; grandson, Branden Marrs of Gilbert, Arizona, sister and brother in law, Marie and Gary Wood of Valdosta, brother and sister in law, Andy and Bonnie Squires of Quitman, sister, Ellen McCarthy, brother, David Squires of Valdosta, sister and brother in law, Lydia and John Keene of Valdosta, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family. Claire was preceded in death by a son, Michael Marrs and her late husband, R. B. Spriggs.
A Celebration of the life of Claire Spriggs Marrs will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at First Christian Church, 1905 N Patterson St, Valdosta, GA 31602. Reverend Chris Michael will officiate. A private inurnment will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens at a later date.
