Cheryl Jean Smith, 65, extraordinary woman, wife, mother and grandmother, died at her home in Valdosta, on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. A graduate of Lowndes County High School and a member of the Georgia Bridgemen, Cheryl was born in Valdosta on October 18, 1957, the daughter of James F. Ussery and Barbara Brady Ussery. She had an amazing work ethic and had worked as a dental assistant and office manager for Dr. Daniel Ward in Columbus, Ohio. Cheryl was a supportive military spouse with a graceful, loving spirit, and a living example of turning the other cheek. Filled with humility and kindness, she always had a smile on her face and enjoyed doing things for others without wanting any recognition.
Cheryl loved the Lord and was a member of Christ’s Place Church. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed experiencing all the world had to offer. She was devoted to her family and her precious Schnauzers.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Randy Smith of Valdosta; a son, Aaron Smith of Columbus, Ohio, daughter, Kristin Smith of St. Augustine, Florida, granddaughter, Taylor Smith of Plain City, Ohio; brothers, Charles Ussery of Waycross, Chester (Grace) Ussery of Jesup, sisters, Charlotte (Tom) Jones of Jesup, Cherrie (Eric) Thompson of Brunswick; her father, James F. Ussery of Valdosta, her mother, Barbara Magee of Jesup, GA. Cheryl was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin (Renee) Ussery.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church. Chaplain Brian Sayer will officiate. A private burial will take place at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
