Cherry Howard Durrett

Cherry Howard Durrett, 86, of Hahira died Monday, May 24, 2021 at The Orchard @ Stone Creek. She was born in Savannah, GA on March 7, 1935 to the late Louis Howard and Neva Brinson Howard. Mrs. Durrett was an active member of First Baptist Church in Springfield, GA. She was a member of Adam Brinson II Chapter DAR and a member of the YMCA. Mrs. Durrett enjoyed her bible study , reading, doing good for others, taking food to neighbors and sewing. She served as a Pink Lady at several hospitals and loved the outdoors enjoying bird watching and botany, butterfly and flora interpretative studies and golf with her husband, Bill. They both were avid Georgia Tech fans.
Mrs. Durrett was a devoted mother to Yvonne Durrett Williams, President & CEO of the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, married to Charles Williams; William Edward Durrett, Jr., M. D., an anesthesiologist and interventional pain specialist with The Pain Center Regenerative Institute in Aiken, SC and Hilton Head, SC, married to Marie Mullis Durrett; and Nancy Durrett Bass, a third grade teacher at Scintilla Charter Academy in Valdosta, GA, married to Michael Bass. Cherry is Mama D to five grandchildren – Abbey Brinson Williams, William Edward Durrett, III, Warren Neil Durrett and wife – Audrey, Lauren Elizabeth Bass and Morgan Emily Bass, great granddaughter, Ginger Anne Marie Durrett, sister to Joan Howard Gernier, several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Durrett, Sr. sister, Joyce Howard Davis and sister in law and brother in law, Mary Louise and John Burl Hulsey, Sr.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 12:30 p. m. in the chapel of Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, GA. Burial will immediately follow. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a. m. until 12:30 p. m. at the cemetery chapel. The family strongly encourages in lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of South GA, P. O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA or to the family to assist with final expenses.
