Chava Telem Hardesty

August 18, 1933 — March 9, 2013

Chava Telem Hardesty, 79, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center. She had moved to Valdosta in November from Winchester, VA, to be closer to family.

Born on August 18, 1933 in Cape Town, South Africa, she was a daughter of the late Gabriel and Naomi Ben-Ari Telem. After secondary school in South Africa and Israel, she received her undergraduate degree from Queen's College in New York and her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan. For thirty-eight years, Dr. Hardesty was a Medical Indexer with the National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD. She loved Mozart, traveling, bubble baths, her cat Cookie, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ilana Hardesty and John Emery of Watertown, MA, Tamara Hardesty and Howard Hsu of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Hudson Hardesty Hsu and Delancey Gavrielle Hsu; and three step-grandchildren, Sarah Emery Bunn, Rose Emery and Addie Rodman.

A Memorial Service will be held at Temple Beth El, Winchester, VA, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra (payable to VSU Foundation), 1500 N.
