Charles W. Hatcher, 94 of Valdosta, died on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Langdale Hospice House following a period of declining health. Born in January 24, 1919 in Midland City, Alabama to the late Thomas Efel Hatcher, Sr. & Hettye Lee Kirkland Hatcher, he had lived in this area for the past 20 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Hatcher served in World War II as a Captain, more recently he was a member of the MOAA Club, and the American Legion. Formerly of Waycross, Mr. Hatcher owned and operated Hatcher Iron & Metal Works for many years. While in Waycross, he was a member of the Lions Club, having served as the South East Georgia District Governor. Mr. Hatcher enjoyed the fellowship of the 12 Old Men's Club here in Valdosta, and helped to establish the Whisky Creek Boat Club in Ft. Myers, FL. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Valdosta.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Lorre Resch Hatcher of Valdosta; a daughter and son in law, Ann (Sandy) & Richard V. Krumm of Wisconsin; a daughter in law, Margie Evans Hatcher of Marietta; a step son and daughter in law, George & Jan Resch of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Claire Hatcher of Marietta, Emily Hatcher of Columbia, SC, Charles William Hatcher, III and wife Layle of Smyrna, Kirk Bray of New Jersey, Chris Bray and wife Tracy of Pennsylvania, Michael Krumm and wife Maureen, Pete Krumm and wife Leiny, Jessica Resch, Stefanie Resch, & Libby Fetherston, all of Tampa, FL, Kym Brophy and husband Tom of Tulsa, OK, John O'Neal and wife Sharlon of Columbia, SC; and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Anita Shelton and Bettye Nichols, both of Valdosta; two brothers and a sister in law, Emory G. & Gene Hatcher, Denver, CO, and David Hatcher of Florida. He is preceded in death by a brother Paul B. Hatcher, Robert E. Hatcher, two sisters Martha Ellen Grudzin and Nelle Curtwright.
A funeral service for Mr. Hatcher will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Long will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 313 N.
