Charles Robert Vickers
Robert Vickers, 99, of Hahira died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Presbyterian Home of Quitman. He was born November 22, 1914 in Lowndes County to the late I. H. and Idella Rountree Vickers and a lifelong resident of Hahira.
Mr. Vickers was a retired farmer and mechanic. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and a charter member of the Hahira Chapter of the American Legion Post 218. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. After his retirement, you could drive by anytime and see him working in his flowers and whistling a tune. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ronald Vickers, a grandson, Cliff Revill, a son in law, Bill Cuthbertson, three sisters, Jewell Mae McDonald, Ina McDonald and Foy Roberts and two brothers, Willie West Vickers and Harley Vickers.
Survivors include three daughters and a son in law, June Cuthbertson of Hahira, Linda and Colin Dale of Cedar Key, FL and Della Ann Vickers of Lexington, KY, one son and daughter in law, John Robert and Tessie Vickers of Hahira; grandsons, Jeff and Delk Revill and Robby and Donna Harris, granddaughters, Lynne and Bobby Bonner, Lisa and Lance Macner, Terri Harris, Danah and Phil Stevenson, Shannon and Charlie Powell, Julie and Dee Ritter, 17-great grandchildren and 9-great great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10am, Monday, August 25, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Russ Elkins officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8pm at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home, 1901 W.
