Charles Ray "Woody" Woods, Sr.

Charles Ray "Woody" Woods, Sr., 79, of Valdosta, died at his home on Monday, May 08, 2017. Born on October 6, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, he was the son of the late, Charlie Y. Wood and Dorothy "Dot" Hayes Wood. A 22 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served his country during the Vietnam Era. A member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, he was an avid Valdosta High School football fan, and member of the Valdosta Wildcat Booster Club.
Woody was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved his country and stood for the values that his country represented. His passing was with such grace and dignity just as he was in life. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Anita Woods of Valdosta; daughters, Mary (Russ) Davis. Heidi (Bart) Myers of Valdosta; son, Charles Jr., (Renae) of Douglas; grandchildren, Steven (Natalie) Davis of Navarre, Florida, Justin Davis of St. Petersburg, FL., Michele Davis of Valdosta, Charles Woods, III, of Cleveland, Tennessee, Jessica Woods of Douglas, Katlyn (Jake) Warmack of Norfolk, Virginia, Melina Holbert of Atlanta, Benita (Clint) Lott of Douglas, Nickie Dugans of Morven, Corey (Amber) Myers of Statenville; great grandchildren, London Davis, Nora Davis of Valdosta and Mia Waite of Navarre, FL; brothers, Boyd (June) Woods, Morris (Pat) Woods. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by brothers, Randy Woods and Wade Woods.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Bass will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
