Charles Ray Glisson, Sr.

July 22, 1925 — December 8, 2006

CHARLES RAY GLISSON, SR., 81, of Valdosta died Friday, December 8, 2006 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 22, 1925 in Pelham to the late Shafter and Mamie Pope Glisson and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mr. Glisson was a veteran of United States Navy Armed Guard during World War II and had worked for many years at Strickland Cotton Mills and Owens-Illinois-Bag Plant. He attended Trinity Baptist Church and was a member of the former Pyle Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Glisson of Valdosta, two sons and daughters in law, Charles, Jr. and Maria Glisson of Tifton, Bobby and Becky Glisson of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Linda and John Beatie of Mineral Bluff, GA., Beverly and Marty Broome of Valdosta, seven grandchildren, Ramsey Sumner, Christian Glisson, Cole Glisson, Candler Glisson, Devin Schaer, Sarah Broome and Derek Broome, two stepchildren and their spouses, Latrelle and Charles Kelly of Valdosta, Buddy and Carolyn Simpson of Valdosta, one sister, Betty Young of Tampa, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Young and Faye DeLoach.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Sunday, December 10, 2006 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Alton Hardee officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
