Charles P. Norton, 73, of Lakeland, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 following an illness at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Lowndes County on July 12, 1936 to the late Lyman C. and Lucile Monk Norton. He was an educator in the Lanier County School System as a teacher and coach and was retired from the Clinch County Board of Education in Administration as a Title One Coordinator. He was formerly married to Kay Norton Brady and was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Kay Norton of St. Simons, Georgia and Celia Beth and Darrell Simmons of Atlanta, Georgia; two sons and daughter-in-law, Charles Nicholas Norton of Lakeland, Georgia and Sam and Julia Norton of Dahlonega, Georgia; three grandchildren, Ethan Powell Norton, Anna Claire Norton and Kaylee Celeste Norton all of Dahlonega; and an aunt, Elizabeth Tyre of Valdosta.

Services for Charles P. Norton will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland, Georgia. Graveside services will follow at Good Hope Batist Church.
