Charles Lindbergh Stewart, 89, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at his home. Born in Blackshear, on October 20, 1927, he was the son of the late, Lee Elmer and Ruby Harper Stewart. Mr. Stewart served 8 years in the U.S. Navy and was a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier for 42 years. Mr. Stewart was recognized for safe driving during his tenure with the post office. He was a member of the Lake Park Christian Church and the American Legion. Mr. Stewart, or "snake man" as many called him, was well known in the community for his blueberries which he grew and sold at Blueberry Hill. He loved people and enjoyed good fellowship with family and friends.
Survivors are his wife, Leigh Stewart of Valdosta; daughter, Donna L. (Jerry) Cherry of Valdosta; a son, Allen (Terry) Dore of Fort Worth, Texas; granddaughter, Heather Lynn Hightower of Valdosta; brother, Buddy Stewart of Tallahassee, Florida, sister, Betty Jo McArthur of Ocala, Florida. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Lynn Stewart, and a sister, Mary Alice Edmondson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Glenn Everett and Reverend Stanley Luke will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanecares.com.
