Charles Eugene King, 88, of Valdosta, GA passed away peacefully at home on November 14, 2024. Charles was born in Hagerstown, Indiana on March 22, 1936 to Lowell and Mary Katherine Burkhardt King (Coffin). He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Emerick Manual Training High School in Indianapolis. While in high school, he served one and a half years in the Naval Reserves. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at Moody Air Force Base, he met and married his late wife of 61 years, Nina Grace Singletary King. They were married in April of 1957. After his service in the Air Force, he was employed for 25 years at Owens-Illinois Bag Plant and 25 years at Dowling Bag/Hood Packaging as Leadman in the Tuber department. After retiring from the bag industry, his wife, Nina, kept him busy driving her around town with her job at Valdosta Greeting Service and many community service and church projects.
He was a long time, faithful member of the Park Avenue Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He served as an usher and on the Evangelism Committee. He enjoyed the fellowship at Family Night Supper. Prior to joining Park Avenue Church, he was an active member of Remerton United Methodist Church serving as Chairman of the Administrative Board and as an usher until it burned in 1996.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen King and Nancy Hathaway both of Valdosta, granddaughter Crystal Williams (Josh) of Starke, Fl, grandson Michael Shults II of Keystone Heights, Fl, great-grandson, Eli Williams, great-granddaughter Lilly Shults, step-great-granddaughter, Briana Williams, step-great-grandson Clayton Williams, numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful companion, Miss Daisy, a Boston Terrier “Bulldog”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina, his father, Lowell King, mother, Mary Katherine Coffin, stepfather, Paul Coffin, brother, Thomas L. King (Marjorie), sister, Doris Jean King, grandmother, Donzal Deibert, and aunt, Nancy Grove (Dick).
The funeral service will be held at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, GA on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Valdosta, GA.
