Charles Houston Powell

CHARLES HOUSTON POWELL, 75, of Valdosta died Friday, January 4, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on July 10, 1932 in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Omar and Arie Whitefield Powell and had been a resident of Valdosta for the past fifty years. Mr. Powell was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Valdosta and retired from ITT Thompson Industries as Purchasing Manager. He graduated from Valdosta State College where he was a charter member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of forty six years, Jerry Shealy Powell of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Leigh Powell Carpenter and Tim Carpenter of Alpharetta, son and daughter in law, Brad and Carla Powell of Hazlehurst, brother and sister in law, Rev. Don L. and Pat Powell of Richmond, VA., an aunt, Merle Whitefield Reddick of Valdosta, an uncle, Harry Joiner of Valdosta, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Omar Powell, Jr. and Jimmie R. Powell.

Graveside services will be held at 2pm, Monday, January 7, 2008 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Mason officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
