Charles Franklin Flythe, 91, of Valdosta went home to be with his heavenly father on Monday, March 24, 2025. Mr. Flythe was born on August 23, 1933, in Lowndes County to the late John Claude and Bessie Bonner Flythe. Mr. Flythe was married to the love of his life, Laura Cooper Flythe for 68 years. He was a loving Christian husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, Buddy, brother and friend to many. He loved teaching life lessons to his children and grandchildren and most enjoyed spending time with them.
Mr. Flythe graduated from Hahira High School in 1950 and served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Bell South with 30 ½ years of service. Mr. Flythe was co-owner of Flythe Angus Farm and Flythe Outdoor Advertising. He worked in the cattle business for 40 years, where he was named as Young Farmer of the Year by the Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce in 1980. He received many awards and accolades for producing the top weight gaining bulls from the University of Georgia and University of Florida Agricultural Divisions. Mr. Flythe holds the record for the High Indexing Bull on the 140-day bull test. Mr. Flythe most enjoyed mentoring friends and acquaintances about the cattle business and advising them on how to be successful in life.
Mr. Flythe was a member of First Baptist Church Valdosta since 1959, where he was ordained as a deacon and influenced many young families through serving in the Young Adult Sunday School Class. He also served on numerous committees in order to support his church. Mr. Flythe went on several mission trips, including Venezuela and Honduras, in order to help with church construction.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Cooper Flythe and daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Jack Johnson, Diann and Bob Branch, son-in-law, Kerry Lineberger, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sabrina and Dale Brantley and Lucienne Brantley, Tully Lineberger, Amber and Luke Martin, Emerson Martin and Elijah Martin, Luke Lineberger and Samantha Lineberger, Samuel Lineberger and Sutton Lineberger, Micah and Chris Kenney, Tal and Rachel Lineberger, Hunter Lineberger, Ben Lineberger, and Jordan and Tyler Cain, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edna Cooper, Wayne and Gayle Cooper, Billy Folsom, Jean Cooper and numerous nieces and nephews, including Greg and Martha Flythe.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Flythe Lineberger, grandson, Zachary Quinten Lineberger, brothers/sisters and sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law, George and Mable Flythe, James and Edith Flythe, JC and Anna Flythe, Edwin Flythe, Margaret and DW Whaley, Marion and Henry Mueller, Louie and Betty Flythe, Gus and Dorothy Johnson, sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law Catherine and Carlton Adams, Charles Cooper, Lenelle and Julian Shierling, Bernard Cooper, Carol Folsom.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM, on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the River Pavilion at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens, in Valdosta, GA with Dr. Chuck Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-2pm at the Pavilion.
