Charles Edward O'Neal, 97, of Valdosta died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Heritage House Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 22, 1912 in Valdosta to the late John and Maude McLeod O'Neal and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta and retired dairy farmer. Mr. O'Neal was a member of the Forrest Park Church of Christ and was the oldest Valdosta High School Wildcat having played from 1929-1932. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family.
Survivors include two sons and daughters in law, Charles, Jr. and Lynda O'Neal of Valdosta, Jerry and Kitty O'Neal of Quitman, one daughter and son in law, Lisa and Rick Chapman of Valdosta, son in law, Stuart Metcalfe of Williamson, Ga., 11-grandchildren, 14-great grandchildren and 1-great great grandchild, one brother, Glenn O'Neal of Valdosta, four sisters, Thelma Grant of Valdosta, Lena Bennett of Jacksonville, Fla., Mattie Lou Schroer of Atlanta and Emily Teagle of Warner Robins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Harrell O'Neal and a daughter, Susan Metcalfe.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, February 14 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Forrest Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
