Charles Edward Carter, Sr., 82, of Lake Park, died at his home in Echols County on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Born in Echols County, on August 31, 1938, he was the son of the late Frank and Gladys Pennington Carter. Charles was the former Echols County Sheriff for twenty years. He loved to fish, always had a dog by his side and had a love of blue grass music. He was a farmer and enjoyed sharing his bounty of vegetables with family and friends. Charles also worked with heavy equipment. He was devoted to his grandchildren and was known for his generosity to others. He attended Statenville Church of God.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Marie Carter; children and their spouses, Rhonda Sandlin, Teresa Howell both of Echols County, Tonia Browning of Lake Park, Patty and Chip Hall of Bainbridge, Edward Carter of Echols County; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; and a cousin, Annette Copeland of Dasher. Charles was preceded in death by a brother and sister in law, Willie Martin and Hazel Carter.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Statenville Church of God. Pastor Tyler Carter, Reverend Mickey Corbett, and Pastor Zack Corbett will officiate. Burial will follow at C.E. Carter Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
